Today, 12:39 AM by Eric M. Zeman
Today the CTIA wireless trade association indicated that it has backed an initiative to make 3.5mm headset jacks the standard audio input/output jack for mobile phones. Many mobile phones continue to ship with 2.5mm headset jacks. The CTIA also supports making microUSB the standard data input/output port for mobile devices. CTIA president Steve Largent said, "By simplifying input and output features on mobile devices, economies of scale will reduce consumers' costs." The goal is to have both 3.5mm headset jacks and microUSB ports standard features on all phones by January 2012.
